The City of Billings is home to stunning parks and trails that offer spaces for recreation, relaxation, and connection. But maintaining our shared spaces takes a community effort. That’s where the Billings Adopt-a-Park/Trail program steps in. This volunteer initiative invites local groups to take an active role in preserving and caring for their favorite public spaces, fostering a sense of stewardship and pride across the Magic City.

What is it?
The Adopt-a-Park program empowers community groups to maintain a designated park or trail in Billings. It’s more than just a cleanup effort—it’s a commitment to sustainability, care, and community engagement. By adopting a park or trail, your organization has the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the health and beauty of Billings’ public spaces.
Why Get Involved?
Adopting a park or trail is more than a service project—it’s a chance to:
- Give back: Help preserve the natural beauty of Billings for future generations.
- Build community: Strengthen bonds within your group and with the broader community.
- Be recognized: Have your group’s contributions celebrated with signage and public acknowledgment.
Who Can Participate?
ANYONE! It’s is free to participate and social groups, churches, and organizations are encouraged to apply

What Do Volunteers Do?
Each group will need to commit to one cleanup event per quarter, and regular monthly visits by a group leader to identify maintenance needs. Participants are empowered to clean up trash in their adopted area, report vandalism or maintenance needs to Parks staff for action and take part in seasonal projects such as:
- Cleaning up fallen fruit or pinecones.
- Tree planting and other environmental efforts.
- Replacing dog waste bags in dog parks.
- Spreading mulch around playgrounds.
