We applaud the 50-plus years of effort by our city’s leaders for implementing policies and structuring systems which have led to cleaner energy, better drinking water access, savings on natural gas, and green space for everyone to enjoy the outdoors.

Outdoor space is among a list of our city’s features that put Billings in Gold status. There is an astounding 1,359 square feet of green space per resident. In fact, more than ninety-nine percent of residences in Billings are within 1/2 mile of a trail, park or other open/green space.

Other major assets recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) include natural flood control/filtering system + recreation opportunities at the Shiloh Conservation Area, our enhanced water efficiency system, the methane capture partnership program between Billings’ landfill and Montana Dakota Utilities and several LEED buildings.

Congratualations Billings, for being not only the only LEED certified city, but for achieving GOLD status!
