City Council plays an important role in the development of our roads, bikeways and trails.  City Council seats will become available in the September local election and filing runs from April 20-June 19.

The Billings TrailNet Advocacy Committee has compiled a list of qualities they believe a City Council member should possess:

  • someone who is available on Monday evenings
  • someone who interested in a strong downtown and has a holistic view of the city
  • someone who respects all modes of transportation and wants to see them on the street
  • someone who has pride in the city
  • someone who is collaborative and is fiscally responsible

City council members serve a four-year term and are limited to two consecutive terms. Members must live within the ward that they are representing. To run you must file between 4/20/17 and 6/19/17, with a filing fee of $72. Once elected you will receive a yearly salary of $7,200. There is one position for each of the five wards. A copy of the ward map may be found here: https://ci.billings.mt.us/DocumentCenter/View/29511.

If you are interested in running for a seat on City Council or know someone who would be a great candidate, please join us at our Advocacy meetings at noon on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. We meet on the 2nd floor at Good Earth Market.
