MDT is holding an open house to update the public on the Billings Bypass Project, including design of the roadway segment from the new Yellowstone River Bridge at Five Mile Road to Main Street/Hwy 87.

The Open House is scheduled for May 14

from 5-7 p.m.

at the Eileen Fischer Middle School

1932 US 87 E, in Lockwood

This could be the last opportunity for community members to advocate for a separated mixed use path for pedestrians and bicyclists adjacent to the new roadway connecting Billings Heights to John H. Dover Memorial Park and to the Lockwood community.

The new bridge includes a great 10 foot wide separated bike/ped path.  However, the current design for the roadway, which was finalized almost 10 years ago, back in 2015, envisions that pedestrians and cyclists will use an 8 foot shoulder to travel between the Heights and the Park.  The Bypass will surely carry a large volume of traffic and will have posted speed limits of 45 mph.  This current design could be quite dangerous for bicyclists and pedestrians!
